In the heart of Liptovský Mikuláš, there’s a place that will delight both food lovers and beer enthusiasts. Liptovar combines a restaurant and a brewery, offering not only excellent regional and European cuisine but also a great atmosphere and beer brewed on-site.
Liptovar – Location and Getting There
The Liptovar restaurant and brewery is located in the center of Liptovský Mikuláš, one of the main towns in the Liptov region (exact address: Garbiarska 2032), making it easily accessible for both locals and tourists exploring the area. The venue is just a few minutes’ walk from the town square (Námestie osloboditeľov), close to the main road No. 18 and the train station, so it can be reached by car or on foot.
For those driving, there is a spacious parking area. Liptovar is an excellent stop on the route between Tatralandia and Jasná, as well as a great starting point for exploring the region.
The Liptovar restaurant is open Monday to Thursday from 11:00 to 22:00, on Fridays from 11:00 to midnight, and on Saturdays from 12:00 to midnight. The restaurant is closed on Sundays.

What’s on the Menu?
Liptovar’s menu is a perfect blend of regional Slovak cuisine with European influences. The menu is designed to appeal both to fans of traditional Slovak dishes and to guests seeking more modern creations. In addition to the regular menu of main dishes and snacks, there is also a weekly menu featuring seasonal specialties and unique dishes.
The regular menu is divided into several sections: Be Snack with appetizers, Be Hot with soups, Be Seat with meat dishes, Be Local showcasing Slovak cuisine, Be Street with street food from around the world, and Be Fresh with salads and pasta. There’s also Be Dip with a variety of sauces, including cheddar or bacon mayonnaise, and a sides menu called Be or Not to Be.
Although a good broth can work wonders and the soup of the day was tripe, I opted for the olive soup… and it was fantastic (€4.50)! I’d never had anything like it before, and the addition of black olive tapenade really elevated the flavor.
My favorite main course was beef cheeks in a dark, locally brewed Rugbeer sauce, served on potato purée – delicious and priced at €12.90.
Since I wasn’t dining alone, you can also see other dishes in the photos, including fried parenica (a Slovak cheese), a burger, and lamb with kaszotto.

Beer from Liptovar Brewery
At the heart of Liptovar is its craft brewery, located just behind the restaurant hall. Liptovar produces several types of beer, all brewed according to traditional recipes without preservatives or artificial additives.
The regular selection includes:
- Beerverly – 14° American Pale Ale (light, 4% ABV)
- Beer Up – 12° Pilsner Ale (light, 4.6% ABV)
- Beer Force One – 14° India Pale Ale (light, 6% ABV)
- Beer Happy – 11° Ležiak (light, 4% ABV)
- Madness – 16.5° Experimental Honey Ale (amber, 6.5% ABV)
- Propaganda – 13° English Pale Ale (amber, 4.7% ABV)
- Rubber – 13° Irish Dry Stout (dark, 4.7% ABV)
- Seabeer – 11° Summer Ale (light, 4% ABV)
- Witbeer – 11° Witbier (light, 4.2% ABV)
- Beeroque – 14° Porter (dark, 5.6% ABV)
Tables are equipped with stands showing which beers are currently on tap. I chose Beer Force One, a pleasant and fresh IPA. Draft beer is served in one size – 0.4 l – priced at €2.20. Generally, on-site beer prices at Liptovar range from €1.50 for a small lager to €2.40 for 0.4 l of porter. Like a good brewpub, the staff is happy to explain each type of beer. You can also buy beer to take away.
Liptovar also produces a stronger 50% alcohol drink called Piwowica, made from beer.
During our visit, an interesting promotion called “Pivo za 20” was running: for €20 per person, you could drink as much beer as you wanted that day.

Menu – Extras and Drinks
In addition to its craft beers and diverse menu, Liptovar also offers a wide selection of drinks and accompaniments to complete your visit. Notable are the homemade beer lemonades, available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions. The brewery also serves non-alcoholic beer, although I tried it and it wasn’t my favorite.
Of course, guests can enjoy coffee or tea on-site, and there’s also draft Kofola, so all the basics are covered. In the summer, visitors can relax in the spacious outdoor garden while enjoying the view of the surroundings.
Nearby Attractions
Liptovar is not only a great place to eat and taste beer but also a convenient base for exploring the region. Within a few kilometers, you’ll find the top attractions:
- Tatralandia – one of Slovakia’s largest water parks, just 5 km northwest.
- Jasná – Chopok – ski resort to the south, with dozens of slopes.
- Demänovská Caves – Freedom Cave and Ice Cave, among the most beautiful karst caves in the region.
In the center of Liptovský Mikuláš, be sure to visit the historic old town, the Janko Kráľ Museum, and walk in the footsteps of Juraj Jánošík, the famous local outlaw who was executed here.
The area also offers biking and walking trails along the Váh River, and tourists can take a boat trip on Liptovská Mara. Liptovar’s location makes it perfect for a culinary stop during an active day or for a relaxing evening after sightseeing.
Why Visit Liptovar Brewery?
Liptovar perfectly combines the atmosphere of a modern restaurant with the local charm of a craft brewery. Both the food and the aesthetics are of high quality. It’s an excellent choice for a family meal or an evening with friends over beer.
The brewery also participates in local events such as food festivals and artisan markets, further strengthening its regional presence. For anyone visiting Liptov, a stop at Liptovar is almost mandatory—not just for the food, but for the atmosphere and the chance to experience the true taste of the region. In short, if you’re in Liptovský Mikuláš, missing Liptovar would be a big oversight.
