Among the gentle landscapes of western Slovakia, in the Trnava Region, far from mass tourism and noisy resorts, there is a truly unique place — Nektaria. It is a space where nature, beekeeping traditions, and a modern approach to enotourism and mead production come together in perfect harmony, driven by the great passion of its owners. Nektaria is not a typical tourist attraction but rather an experience – one that engages all the senses and invites visitors to slow down and discover flavors deeply rooted in local tradition.
This is a place created out of love for bees, honey, and the surrounding landscape. From the very first moments, visitors notice the aesthetic character of the buildings, the attention to detail, and the deep respect for nature. Nektaria is an ideal stop both for lovers of slow travel and for those searching for authentic flavors of the Trnava region. A visit here is not just about shopping or tasting — it is a story about the relationship between humans and nature, told through the scent of honey, the taste of mead, and the view of carefully designed yet naturally looking gardens.
Location and getting there
Nektaria is located not far from Trnava, in the area of the Little Carpathians, a region long considered one of the most picturesque and gastronomically interesting parts of Slovakia. The location of the complex is no coincidence – the area offers a favorable microclimate, rich vegetation, and a long tradition of agriculture and winemaking, all of which directly influence the quality of the honey and products created here.
The most convenient way to reach Nektaria is by car. The drive from Trnava takes about 30 minutes, depending on the starting point. The route passes through quiet villages and green countryside, which in itself is a pleasant introduction to the visit. Parking is available on site, making it easy to arrive even when traveling with family.
Public transport access is possible, although less convenient. You can take a bus from Trnava or travel by train. In the latter case, you can easily reach Smolenice and then transfer to a bus, or simply walk from the railway station — the distance is about 2 kilometers. The region is also very friendly for cycling, which makes Nektaria a perfect stop during a one-day trip around Trnava and the Little Carpathians.

What awaits visitors on site?
Nektaria has been designed as a multifunctional space – not only for the production of honey and mead, but also for meetings, tastings, relaxation, and education. From the moment you pass through the entrance gate, it is clear that this is a thoughtfully designed and carefully crafted place. The architecture blends harmoniously with the surroundings, while natural materials emphasize the ecological character of the complex. Nektaria is also constantly evolving and developing.
Visitors will find a tasting area, a garden, a café, a shop, and spaces where they can learn more about beekeeping and production processes. Everything has been arranged so that guests do not feel as if they are in a typical museum, but rather like visitors at the home of hosts who proudly share the story of their work.
Nektaria is a calm, unpretentious, and very “human” place. There is no rush or crowds – instead, there is time for conversation, tasting, and observing nature. It is an ideal space both for a short stop and for a longer, relaxing visit.
The shop and café are open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You can find details on the Nektaria website.

Café – the taste of honey in a new form
One of the most beloved spots at Nektaria is the café, which serves as a natural extension of the place’s philosophy. It is a bright, cozy space open to the garden, where products based on honey play the leading role. The menu is seasonal and carefully composed in a way that highlights natural flavors rather than masking them.
At the café, visitors can enjoy coffee and tea enriched with honey from the local apiary, desserts inspired by traditional recipes, and light snacks perfect for a break during the visit. It is an excellent place to relax for a moment, have a conversation, and admire the surroundings.
The café also plays an integrating role — it is often the starting point for tastings, workshops, and themed gatherings. Thanks to this, it becomes the heart of Nektaria, a place where guests from different places naturally come together.

Honey and Mead – production and awards
The heart of Nektaria lies in its honey and mead, both produced with exceptional care for quality and tradition. The production process relies on local flowers, which means that every honey has a unique character depending on the season and the plants in bloom. Honey is harvested in a sustainable way, with respect for both the bees and the environment.
A special place is reserved for mead, which has become the hallmark of Nektaria. Created according to traditional recipes, it matures over a long period of time, gradually developing depth and complexity. These are products that regularly win awards at international mead competitions, confirming the highest level of craftsmanship.
The flagship product of Nektaria is Včelovina. It differs from other meads mainly in the production process — it ferments at lower temperatures and is made from as many as three types of honey, which also gives it a slightly sweeter taste. Both Včelovina and traditional medovina are available in different flavor variations and in a variety of bottles.
During tastings, visitors can learn about the differences between various styles of mead, discover how fermentation and aging take place, and understand why mead is once again gaining popularity as a noble beverage.
It is also worth taking a moment to appreciate a truly exceptional product – Včelovina Špeciál. During the Apimondia International Apicultural Congress, held every two years, it won the title of Best Mead in the World in 2013. After tasting the products myself, I can confirm that this truly represents world-class quality.
Nektaria also offers tastings of local meads and other products. Information about dates, prices, and contact details can be found on the website.

Gardens – nature as part of the experience
An integral part of Nektaria are its gardens, which serve not only an aesthetic function but also an educational one. This space has been designed with pollinators in mind – filled with honey-producing plants, herbs, and flowers that attract bees. A walk through the gardens is a great opportunity to understand how important biodiversity is and how strongly it influences the quality of the products.
The gardens encourage a slow stroll, observing nature, and taking a moment to relax. They also provide a natural setting for tastings and outdoor events that regularly take place at Nektaria. Just look at the photos – the gardens are also a perfect place for a photo session during your visit!

Shop, Brewery and the Surroundings
At the end of your visit, it is worth stopping by the company shop, where you can buy honey, mead, cosmetics based on bee products, and small souvenirs. These are high-quality products, perfect as gifts or culinary souvenirs from your trip. The variety of items is enormous, and everyone will surely find something for themselves. During our visit, our basket quickly filled with meads, honey lollipops, a honey hair conditioner, wooden bee figurines, and honey beer.
It is also worth mentioning that Nektaria produces a unique honey beer called Medoobeer Honey ALE. Its distinctive feature is a method of secondary fermentation directly in the bottle, similar to the technique used in the finest Belgian beers. Medoobeer Honey ALE won a gold medal at the Apimondia International Apicultural Congress 2022.

The surroundings of Nektaria encourage further exploration. Nearby you will find the vineyards of the Little Carpathians, the city of Trnava with its beautiful historic center, and numerous hiking and cycling routes. Nektaria fits perfectly into a one-day or weekend trip around the region.
During our visit, we combined a stop at Nektaria with a visit to Smolenice Castle, which can be seen from the garden, and a trip to the ruins of the Katarínka Monastery.

Summary
Nektaria is a place that stays in your memory for a long time. It combines authenticity, quality, and the beauty of nature, offering much more than a standard tourist attraction. Nektaria is a family-run business, and you can truly feel it.
