Traveling with children often means looking for attractions that they will enjoy! That’s how we found the Dino Park in Košice, which is located in the Zoo of this city! Dinosaurs are animals that both our kids like, so visiting this place was a mandatory point on our trip around the area!
Location and Access
The Zoo and Dino Park in Košice are actually located just below the city, with the exact address – k Zoologickej záhrade 1, Kavečany. Our navigation from Košice led us through interesting but very narrow roads with very pleasant views.
Right at the entrance to the Zoo, you will find a parking lot, but it is paid. Right after the opening of the garden, in the morning hours, there is no problem with finding a spot, but it fills up quite quickly before noon. If you want, you can also reach it by public transport from Košice – look for bus number 29 and get off at the ZOO stop.
Tickets and opening hours
The Dino Park in Košice is located within the Zoo and it is not possible to visit it without going to the Zoo. If you want to see both attractions, the most cost-effective option is to purchase a combined ticket. A regular ticket that allows entry to both the Zoo and Dino Park costs 10 Euros (reduced price 7 Euros, children from 2 to 6 years old – 4 Euros, and a family ticket 2+2 – 27 Euros). Accordingly, a ticket for the Zoo alone costs 7 Euros for an adult, 4.5 Euros reduced, 3 Euros for children aged 2-6, and a family ticket 2+2 is 19 Euros. If, having already been to the Zoo, you decide that you would like to visit the Dino Park as well, tickets are then about twice as expensive, so I recommend considering this before entering the Zoo.
The opening hours of the two attractions are also dependent on each other. The Dino Park in Košice has different opening hours depending on the season. From April 1 to September 18, it is open daily from 9:00 to 19:00, for the remaining days of September daily from 9:00 to 18:30, in October daily from 9:00 to 17:00, and for the rest of the year, it remains closed. The Zoo is open year-round daily, but with varying hours. In winter from 9:00 to 16:00, in March from 9:00 to 17:00, and from April from 9:00 to 19:00. You can check the current prices and opening hours on the Zoo’s website.
ZOO in Košice
We mainly visit zoos for the youngest members of the family, and while some institutions of this type care for animals and support their protection, others do so to a lesser extent. When it comes to the Zoo in Košice, it’s worth mentioning at the outset that it has a very interesting location, as a significant part of the area offers amazing views of the surroundings.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find all the animals that were listed on the map in the actual grounds. They were often not on their enclosures, and the enclosures looked as though no one had lived there for a long time. Generally speaking, you will find various animals at the Zoo, but the diversity is not very high.
An interesting feature is the possibility to feed some of the animals. You can buy feed for them in special vending machines – we treated the llamas we passed along the way. They ate it with appetite and, fortunately, they did not spit at us.
Dino Park in Košice
The Dino Park in Košice is part of a network of Dino Parks, which includes eight such facilities. They are located in Budapest (Hungary), Algar (Spain), Prague, Liberec, Pilsen, Vyškov, and Ostrava (Czech Republic). Each park is unique, so visiting one does not preclude visiting another.
The Dino Park in Košice occupies an area that is mostly forested, and within its grounds, there are dinosaur models, a playground, and a 3D cinema. An interesting fact is that within the park grows a special species of pine – Wollemia nobilis – which is a plant discovered in the 1990s and has been present on our planet since the dinosaur era.
If you get hungry while viewing the dinosaurs, the Dino Park in Košice is equipped with a small food outlet, and those in search of thematic souvenirs will also not be disappointed in the shop located just at the exit.
Worth to visit?
The Zoo and Dino Park in Košice are definitely places that the youngest will enjoy! Košice itself is an interesting city, often overlooked by tourists, but it’s worth a visit. The Zoo, as we’ve written, is not the best we’ve been to, but the Dino Park redeemed it in the eyes of our children, because dinosaurs are still dinosaurs!
