Paths in the treetops are more and more popular. They became interesting places that are worth visiting. I have been planning visit for the long time and finally I succeeded. At the first time we went to the Treetop Trail located in the Czech Krkonoše.
Path
Let’s start with a short Czech lesson. Stezka korunami stromů is a simple expression to understand. Stezka is simply a path. As for the second word, it means a crown (top). The last word strom means nothing but a tree. There are several paths around the world and many of them belong to one company. The Krkonoše trail is the only one that also has an underground part.
Location and availability
The path is located in Janské Lázně. Access to it is well-marked, but if you are looking for the exact address is Krkonošská 350 street (coordinates for navigation 50.631331N, 15.756782E).
The path is open 364 days a year (except Christmas Eve). Depending on the month, opening hours are different:
- June – September (9.30-19.00)
- October (10.00-1800)
- November, December (10.00-16.00)
- January – March (10.00-16.00)
- April, May (10.00-18.00)
An adult ticket costs 220 CZK. If you want to use the slide to come back then you have to add 50 more crowns, but I will write to you about the slide itself.
Sightseeing
Walking the path in the treetops is a really nice time. You can hire a guide, but the individual option is also interesting. Along the way, we have various points describing nature and things occurring in it. After a walk, we go to the tower. We start from the underground, where we can see the tree root system model and familiarize ourselves with the boards and interactive elements. Then we start “climbing up”. We walk, over and over, but we do not feel it. The slope of the pavement is not large so you can easily climb to the top. The tower is over 40 meters so after reaching its highest point we have a very nice view of the area. I think that there must be beautiful sunsets from there. All of the surrounding mountains are described on the arrows. You can even see Śnieżka Mountain in Poland! Coming back we have a choice if we want to use the same way or use the slide. As you can guess, I chose the second option. To reach the bottom we need to put legs in a bag of material (to limit braking with shoes). The first 2-3 meters of the exit are very slow, and the rest of the route passes so fast that you do not know what to say at the bottom. There is no way to brake on the way, so adrenaline is at a high level! Going from the slide to the exit, we have several educational positions along the way. Descriptions on the path are made in Czech and English, but we can also get materials in Polish. On the route, you will also find something that looks like a tube / telescope. They are used to direct the eyesight to the detail, which is described on the boards.
Worth it?
Definitely worth it! The path is located in the Krkonoše Mountains, which are the highest mountains in the Czech Republic. If you like mountains, wood, nice views that is something for you. If you like the adrenaline injection, try also the slide. If, however, you have extreme fear of heights, you may feel uncomfortable at the very top. In windy weather, you can feel that the tower is gently working. Still, I think it is worth coming especially with children.
