The trend for Christmas gingerbreads (in the form we observe) is not old. All in all, baking and decorating spicy cookies is a nice family entertainment.
For me, Christmas has always been associated with gingerbread, poppyseed cake, cheesecake, and sometimes apple pie. I do not connect any cookies to my Christmas time. Actually, now associate we are trying to prepare some for every holiday. This year, we made them according to the German family recipe brought by a friend.
- 200 g flour
- 50 g powdered almonds
- 90 g sugar
- skin peeled from a large orange
- 125 g butter
- pinch of salt
- a few drops of orange or almond liqueur (if you do not have or do not want to give, add a tablespoon of orange juice)
- Juice of whole orange + icing sugar for the frosting
Mix ingredients thoroughly. You can use the robot or do it manually. It is important that the butter is not cold because then it will be a bit harder. After carefully making the dough, put it down for an hour in the fridge. In the meantime, we do what we want 🙂 Next, we roll the dough to a thickness of about half a centimetre and cut out the shapes we choose. Bake on top and bottom heating for about 10 minutes at about 180 degrees. In the meantime, we squeeze orange juice – may be the one from which we’ve peeled the skin. Add the powdered sugar until a satisfactory, thick consistency is obtained. We grease the cookies with icing after cooling them down. If after one time the effect is not satisfactory for you, apply the second layer.
The cookies are crispy and slightly orange. The icing gives them even more flavour. Their preparation as you can see is not difficult so you will definitely be able to prepare your orange cookies!
