Is it expensive in Australia? Well not cheap, but you can buy some things at good prices in secondhand shops in Australia. You can buy there not only clothes. They have different names and prices, but often they can surprise with their products.
In Australia they are often called an op-shop (from the word opportunity). These are places where revenue from sales is allocated partly to charity.
Brands
There are quite a few different second-hand brands. The most popular and the ones I visit most often were Salvos, Winnies and Australian Red Cross. Of these three favourite was probably Salvos. Each store is different despite the fact that they are one brand. The same differences you can see in prices and offer. You can find different prices in trendy districts compare to town in the province. In addition to the three mentioned brands, you will also find in Australia a lot of commissions and other shops with used clothing and other things.
Offer
In Poland, stores of this type are associated with one – with clothes. Sometimes there are shoes or toys in them, but these are rare. In Australia, too, clothes are usually the main product, but in addition to them, there are also many other things. Depending on the size of the shop, you can often find furniture in them. Different quality and condition, but if you’re a fan of renewing the antiques then you will definitely feel good.
You will find a lot of clothes in stores. Most often they hang on hangers and are sorted by type (jackets, dresses, etc.). They are in good condition and often have store tags.
The stores also have a kitchen area. Plates, pots, pans and other household appliances are only waiting to be bought. I think that food bloggers and foodstylists could spend some time there because some products were really beautiful.
In addition to kitchen items in each store, you will also find books. Mostly novels, but after few moments of searching, we have a lot of guides, culinary books and other books. If we are lucky, we will buy it for 1-2 dollars. Vinyl records are also available in some stores. In one of them, we found quite a good collection of Polish hits from years ago (someone apparently cleaned the house).
Of course, just like in Poland you will find a lot of accessories and toys. Hats, sunglasses, jewelry of various quality and beauty are waiting for you.
Where do things in these stores come from? People give it away. If something is unnecessary or bought new, the old one usually goes to one of the stores or to the “exhibition” on the street. Australians think that if someone needs something, it’s better to give it away for free than to throw it away.
In addition to the large amount of clothes, we have equipped ourselves with several Australian souvenirs, a bag, children’s books and several other products. If it were not for weight restrictions and size of luggage, then restrictions would surely disappear from us.
