Museum of Częstochowa

The only thing which I had in my mind when thinking about Częstochowa was Jasna Góra and maybe a little Jura region. After the weekend, I have more ideas in my head. Today, I invite you to the text about the interesting place that undoubtedly is the Museum of Częstochowa.

There are several institutions of this type in Częstochowa, and the Częstochowa Museum is actually a collection of several objects on various topics.

We visited places which are bolded on the list. We started with the Iron Ore Museum, later the Town Hall, and finally the Museum of Częstochowa Jews. Family ticket for two adults and a child (children can be four) cost us 20 PLN for the entire day. As part of the ticket, we can visit all facilities on a given day.

Museum of Iron Ore Mining

The first museum that we visited is located in a park right next to Jasna Góra. You can see there two buildings, but the museum is not in any of them and is located underground. Mine sidewalks and chambers have been reconstructed there. The exhibition about iron ore mining is interesting. We are guided by the narrator from the speakers. I did not expect such a great exhibition. I was surprised very positively. It was not a matter of going to the facility and making an exhibition in the building only a nice approximation of the topic. The exhibition is visited in mining helmets. Various aspects of miners’ work are shown. You will find information about explosives, sidewalks and other topics. In front of the entrance, there is a mine railway locomotive.

Townhall

The Museum in the Town Hall is divided into a permanent exhibition, a temporary exhibition and a town hall tower. The tower, unfortunately, had some technical problems and we were unable to visit it. The temporary exhibition concerned butterflies and insects. But let’s return to the main exhibition. It reminds me of the style of an exhibition at the Museum of the History of Kielce. It is interesting and knowledge is given in a nice form. Moving to the next halls, we go through the centuries of Częstochowa’s history. We start from the times of cave bears and mammoths and end up in modern times. On the way, we can see an illustrative model of fotoplastikon and many elements related to the Częstochowa industry. It’s about a factory of wallpapers, cotton and many other interesting places.

Museum of the Częstochowa Jews

It is located in the tenement house, not in the city centre. Being there, I called the intercom and I was let in. The exhibition occupies one, large apartment and is dedicated to the Jewish community in Częstochowa. I did not associate this city with Jews, but the fact that before the war there lived over 30,000 of them impresses. There are not many exhibits in the museum. The exhibition is based on archival photographs and boards. I learned there about the Jewish cemetery that we visited the next day. There will be a separate text about it, but I can tell you that it makes a huge impression!

If you are going to Częstochowa, you should add the Częstochowa Museum to your list. The Mining Museum and the Town Hall will certainly appeal to the older and the younger. I would not take children to the Museum of Częstochowa Jews because it will be boring for them. Next time we will visit other parts – the archaeological reserve looks interesting.
