Is Australia expensive? It’s not cheap, but you can buy some things at good prices. Secondhand shops, in which you can buy not only clothes, you will find in practically every town. They have different names and prices, but can often surprise with their treasures. Make sure to visit second-hand shops in Australia!
In Australia, they are often called op-shop (from the word opportunity). These are the places where the proceeds of the sale go partially to charity.
Brands
There are many different brands of second-hand shops. The most popular and the ones I visited the most were Salvos, Winnies and the Australian Red Cross. Salvos was probably my favourite of those three. Each store is different from each other (they are often under the same name). It is similar with prices and the offer. Different things and prices can be found in fashionable neighbourhoods, and different in a town in the provinces. In addition to the three mentioned, you will also find a lot of second-hand shops and other stores with used clothing and other curiosities in Australia.
Offer
In Poland, stores of this type are associated with one thing – clothes. Sometimes they have shoes or toys. In Australia, clothes are usually the main commodity, but there are also many other things. Depending on the size of the store, you can often find furniture there. Different quality and beauty, but if you are a fan of restoring antiques, you will definitely feel good.
You will find a lot of clothes in stores. Most often they hang on hangers and are sorted by type (jackets, dresses, etc.). They are in good condition and often have shop tags.
The shops also have a well-developed kitchen area. Plates, pots, pans and other small household appliances are just waiting for a purchase. I think food bloggers and food stylists could spend some time there because some okay was really beautiful.
In addition to kitchen items, you will also find books in every store. Most novels, but you only need to look for a moment and we have a lot of culinary books and guides. If we get there, we will buy the books for 1-2 dollars. Some stores also have vinyl records. In one of them, we found a pretty good collection of Polish hits from years ago (someone apparently was cleaning the house, for example, of a Polish family).
Of course, just like with us, you will find a lot of accessories and toys. Hats, sunglasses, jewellery of various quality and beauty are waiting for you in quantities, often in bulk.
Where do things in these stores come from? People give them back. If someone does not need something or has bought a new one, the old one usually goes to one of the stores or are presented on the street. Australians think that if something is ready to use to someone, it is better to give it away for free than throw it away.
In addition to a large number of clothes, we have equipped ourselves with a few Australian souvenirs, a bag, books for children and a few other products in this type of shop.
I recommend you to visit one of the second-hand shops in Australia because you can find real treasures there! :)
